Week Zero- A New Season "Unofficially" Begins

Stacy vs. Boring Saturdays

Oh week zero. The "unofficial" beginning to college football season. For us college football writer wives, its the official beginning to another tough season of cranky husbands (who wouldn't be cranky working 60-70 hour weeks?) completely opposite schedules, and single activities.

Luckily, I had some help getting me through this tough first weekend from a wonderful family friend, Deb. She saw the two bags I had created on Instagram and asked if I could make her a few. What an honor!

Back to the Quilt Shop

Having only 2 holiday related fat-quarters left, I headed back over to the quilt shop to find some beautiful fabric for my dear friend.

I excitedly showed the ladies who worked at the shop pictures of the two bags I had created. They were so sweet and encouraging about them. After a fun little chat, I begin browsing for fabric once again.

You guys, I found a whole different room I hadn't even explored yet! EEEK! Gorgeous sparkly, shimmering fabric that took my breath away. Additionally, Deb had requested polka dots. SO MUCH FUN! I'm a bit polka dot obsessed, so this was the easiest request she could made.

I picked out 4 fat quarters, a few more zippers, and headed back to the apartment for another fun Saturday!

The Bags

Ok, you may be getting tired of seeing this, but at this time I was still a bit nervous to venture away from a pattern I had already attempted. I once again used the Cute Corners Cosmetic Case Pattern by Sew Can She.

However, I altered the sizes a bit. Deb was looking for something closer to 9 inches x 5 inches, and the finished bags I was making were closer to 11 inches x 7 inches. After discussing this with Deb, I made one bag 11 inches x 7 inches and the other 9 inches x 5 inches. Luckily, sizing down a bit didn't alter the pattern what-so-ever.

The Saturday Bag

A little background on Deb and my's relationship- My mom and Deb met while working at Purdue together. Because of this I wanted a Purdue-inspired bag. The picture does not do this bag justice at all because the polka dots and the gold lining shimmer. It's so. Stinking. Cute.

The Sunday Bag

I don't know if I mentioned this, but a college football writer's job isn't done on Saturday. No Sir Re. Usually the job continues into the wee-hours of Sunday morning, picks up again around 8 am and goes on through Sunday evening. Therefore, my Sundays usually need an activity too! Yes sometimes that is boring cleaning. Ugg. I hate that. But I needed a good Sunday sewing project for week zero.

Enter bag number 2 for Deb. STOP IT! Green shimmer outside, with a lining that unfortunately I stared at more than photographed. A kaleidoscope of Orange, yellow and green polka dots that made this bag have the perfect fall feel. Don't worry, I have big upcoming plans for this leftover fabric so I can hopefully show you all the full beauty!

A week later, Deb received her bags in the mail

As usual, she was the sweetest person in the world and raved about them. Deb, you are the best and it was wonderful creating these for you! It made the "unofficial" start to football season much more fun <3
